Doubling-stacking the rings in a chainmaille pattern is called "kinging" the weave - like in checkers! This stunning hypo-allergenic stainless steel necklace features a Kinged version of the classic old world Byzantine weave (also called Etruscan chain) using DISTRESSED 16 gauge rings. I used blackened steel rings then treated them so they have a distressed patchy surface color. Double stacking the rings creates texture and shows off this color treatment PLUS using machine-cut rings emphasizes the industrial diesel-punk look of the chain. This version is quite beefy and it is quite popular with men at the booth. It has a nice weight and can take a great deal of abuse without showing it. It is a thick round weave that measures half an inch wide.

Also: The links are STRONG. I use hardened stainless steel rings for this - not the "soft" steel or plated metal rings you see at Hot Topic or the Harley store.

This clasps with a small heavy duty gate clasp with a nice strong spring.
